几年来，在全国人民共同努力下，一所所希望学校平地而起，希望工程取得长足的发展，帮助的贫困学生越来越多了。然而，社会上的失学儿童似乎并没有减少，大街小巷村庄山道总能见到他们来往的身影。这不能不让人发出深深的质问：这是为什么呢？ 
从财富的分配角度来看，失学儿童越来越多，只是一个表面现象，实际上是越来越多的家庭占有的财富不足，而家庭占有财富的不足又是由人口增长过快而财富增长相对滞后以及财富分配上的不均等造成的。 
人口增长过快造成基数增大引起人均财富降低，这一点是不言而喻的；另一方面，人口过多势必造成劳动力剩，影响生产力的发展，造成财富增长减慢，势必有人贫困。 

从社会角度看，我国已进入市场经济时代，竞争日趋激烈，必然会造成众多企业破产，再加上许多国有企业要改组，就会造成众多的失业，这样也会导致许多家庭贫困，造成失学儿童。 
从历史政治角度看，我国原有经济底子薄，现在占有财富不多，也是形成贫困家庭的一个很重要的原因，自然也是失学的一个原因。 
从失业、贫困的个人来说，由于他们技术差、竞争意识不强，无法适应新时代、新潮流。而另一些农民家庭的贫困则是由于外界环境十分恶劣，像我国的西北一些地区，他们为了生存，毁林、毁草，而毁林毁草的结果是生存环境越来越不好，生活也就越发艰难。 
当然，贫困的原因还可能是各种天灾人祸。例如，1998年的大洪水淹没了许多人的家园，造成了无数贫困的家庭，这也是造成学生失学的一个原因。 
通过以上的分析，我们知道了要解决失学儿童的问题，为希望工程找到出路，必须采取以下措施：

四、实行人口迁移，摆脱恶劣的自然条件。 
五、这点最为重要，那就是从根本上改变作为自然界的“主体者”——人的思想观念，用知识用科技来改变他们的传统观念。现在提倡的送文化下乡、送科技下乡就是很好的一条路子。所以我以为“希望工程的希望”就在这里头。

我最难忘的爱
